Africa Nyaga

Festival Attendee

“Your festival Afrika Nyaga on Sunday was the first time in 3 years that I found joy after losing my mother.”

Lizzie Araujo

“Sidy seamlessly curates both traditional and modern programs that represent the vitality of the community, and it's dedication to cultural diversity.”

Africa Nyaga is a celebration of African rhythms in the past, present, and future.

A melting pot of sounds and movement, it is an acclamation of Black joy, and its influence on contemporary music. The festival reaches a wide audience, spanning cultures, age ranges and nationalities, resulting in a flagship musical and cultural event in Providence, Rhode Island.

Hosting international stars such as the “song bird of Wassoulou” Oumou Sangaré, African psych-funk king Vieux Farka Touré, soulful lyricist Thandiswa, and afrobeat superstar Wunmi, the festival folds in local musicians playing hip-hop, soul, cuban jazz, R+B, funk, and more. The result is a raucous party that explores the vibrant variation inspired by African rhythms.
